Public Consultation on Circular Economy until 24 Jan – The European Commission call for support from citizens and other economic actors to take the lead on Product Circularity
While discussions on Circularity have just been initiated elsewhere (ISO has just started its working group on the subject) the European Commission takes the lead on this subject and launches a public consultation and thus call for the support of all European citizen and economic actors to assess and enhance its environmental policy framework in order to build a relevant and effective European Circular Economy.
In accordance with its Circular Economy Action plan adopted in 2015, the European Commission is assessing the outcomes of the existing policies: Ecodesign Directive, Restrictions of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS) and the Registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals (REACH), Extended Producer Responsibility schemes, Green Public Procurement, Energy labeling, EU Ecolabel, Environmental Technology Verification, Waste Directive, directives on Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and on End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV), etc.).
The consultation is first dedicated to European citizens but also to other economic actors, businesses, civil society including NGOs and national and regional authorities in Member States.
It also offers to discuss new initiatives such as Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), a methodology to provide relevant and clear information on any products put on the European Market for enable the public to make responsible and sustainable choice.
The consultation runs until January 24th!
